Shavnabada are a twelve strong male voice choir whose passions lie in ressurecting monastery and folk music that had all but dissapeared from Georgian culture as a result of Georgia being part of the Soviet Union. Under the Soviets, much of the music was banned but did however remain in the conscious memories of singing families across the country.
All members of Shavnabada trained for five years to become members of the Martve Choir which is the choir associated with the Georgian folk music school in Tbilisi. It is here that they all met and studied under Anzor Erkomaishvili. They are all now members of one of the Georgian Patriarch Choirs at the Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi. They attend many important religious ceremonies and sometimes accompany the Patriarch when he travels with his holy work.
