"through Georgian song, the connection is being made to a very ancient yet common past"

Quoted from 'On Georgian Folk Music' by Andrea Kuzmich

Georgian music with its ability to induce goose bumps and watering eyes is unique in world culture. Many people speak of an elevated feeling into a mystical state when singing or listening to Georgian song. It reaches across the breadth of humanity and people feel this deep within.

At the beginning of many Georgian songs there is a solo call, this can be heard not only as an invitation to sing but also as an invitation to listen.

In a concert you can expect to hear a variety of songs from the different regions of Georgia, each with its own individual characteristics and sometimes accompanied by folk instruments such as the Chonguri which is similar to a lute.

Performances can be very visual as well as beautiful with round dances and solo dances that accompany the songs. The men will be clad in black chokas addorned with bullets and swords. The woman wear beautiful dresses with patterns and designs unique to Georgia.

Georgian song is traditionally held in the memories of singing families and handed down through the generations particularly by outstanding performers who are cherished by those who love this inspiring music with its exquisitely refined taste, boundless imagination and connection to the heart.
